Issue 9.4.1 "Group A Winner vs Group F Winner"

PORTLAND AND ORLANDO EACH SCORE FIRST TWO GOALS EN ROUTE TO FINAL
No one got either semifinalist giving TarjetaRoja 2nd and The Six Foot Box 3rd

MLS FinalBUBBLE PARTY & PLAYTIME, CA (smt) -- Group F winner Portland Timbers capitalized on two corner kicks and survived giving up their 5th penalty kick and a 50/50 offside call to defeat 2A-Philadelphia Union, 2-1.  PHI skied a PK over the crossbar before halftime and after cutting the lead in half, nearly scored a minute later but the ref called offsides nullifying the goal.  Had the ref done let the 50/50 call go to VAR the goal would've stood.  Alas, POR defeats their second consecutive Group A foe (beating 3A-New York City FC in the quarters) and will have a chance to make it 3-for-3 in Group A as they will face Group A winner Orlando City SC.  POR has won the past two matches despite having two days less rest than their opponent.  This time they will have one more day rest than ORL.

Host ORL roared with two Nani first-half goals, the first Nani just overpowering the defender to toe poke it past the goalkeeper and the second a world-class strike from outside the box.  Nani added a garbage time assist as ORL beat 2D-Minnesota United FC 3-1.  MIN's first goal came on a 50/50 offside where the ref correctly let it go and it was close enough VAR didn't even have to review it closely, just check it like all other goals.  ORL had just 7 shots but four were on goal.  The Final is Tuesday.

Of the four semifinalists, PHI's PK was just the second amongst the group and both were missed (ORL last match).  No team has been shut out in the past ten matches as clean sheets have been tough (just 25 in 100 possibilities).  There ha not been a red card in the past nine matches.  ORLvMIN was delayed 79 minutes due to rain and lightning, the third such long delay in the tourney.

In the pool, PHI losing meant Deutschland = Koenig (6th, 57 pts) was eliminated leaving The Six Foot Box (65) clinching 3rd but with a chance for 2nd.  MIN losing, however, meant TarjetaRoja (69) gets to keep 2nd place and The Six Foot Box will finish 3rd.  Since no one got any semifinalist correct, the standings are complete.  Bobby Cee Racer is our champion (76) which we knew for a while.  There are two tiebreakers for 7th (<=11 and >=12) and 10th (<=10 and >=11) that need to be played out.  Currently the total goals tiebreaker sits at 7 with the final to be played.

If PORTLAND/ORLANDO CITY SC beats ORLANDO CITY SC/PORTLAND in Final…

Bits 'n Bobs -   the Knockout matches do not count toward the regular season standings... MLS plans to announce how the regular season will continue soon (estimate 18 more matches per team)... first time PHI has trailed... POR's Sebastián Blanco did not extend his assist streak to 6 but got his 3rd goal (5 assists tied with TOR's Alejandro Pozuelo in the tourney)... POR had just 5 fouls (PHI 16 plus 2 cards)... POR had 7 saves and PHI 5 (PHI GK Andre Blake finishes with 33 saves in 6 matches (5.5 per match))... MIN had 13 CKs and 17 shots but just 3 on goal... LAFC's Diego Rossi leads with 7 goals in tourney... Pool Summary: ... entries averaged just 0.00 semifinalists (0.0%) the first time that has happened in 36 HWCI NCAA, World Cup, Women's World Cup, and EURO pools... Disciplinary Points are calculated as accumulation of each: foul (1), yellow card (3), 2nd yellow card/straight red cad/coach dismissal (7), and any supplemental discipline (8) -- however there is no official published tally for the public...
