Wednesday, May 22, 2002 http://www.HWCI.com/worldcup Issue # 0.0.0 "Time to Kick It" A CALL TO ARMS- 2ND HWCI WORLD CUP POOL HAS ARRIVED! Deadline is 11:59 pm PDT on Thursday, May 30th EL SEGUNDO, CA (smt)- The 2nd HWCI World Cup Pool is upon us and features a web entry system lacking in 1998 (still in beta testing, but should work) and is similar to how our NCAA pool is done. You have eight days to get your picks in as the first game is 4 am PDT on Friday, May 31st featuring defending champion France and Senegal. Just like in 1998, you will pick all 48 Round Robin games, the 16 teams *you* think will make the Round of 16 (top 2 teams in each of the 8 groups) and who will win the Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Seminfinals, and Final matches and tiebreaker, 80 choices in all and all before the first match is played! It worked very well last time when we had 21 entries in the grand experiment. The only change this year is there is no 2nd tiebreaker pick (3rd place match). I've attached a Word document that explains all the rules (point system, prize distribution) and has the round-robin games and bracket (a la Sweet 16 style). Use Page 3 (matches and bracket) as a guide to help you enter your picks on the web. You can enter via email, use the form (page 3) to email or fax, or enter on the web (http://www.HWCI.com/worldcup/wc02_entry.html). And you can pay your $10 entry fee to me via mail (17333 Jeanette Av, Cerritos, CA 90703) or PayPal (send money to "hwci@hotmail.com"). I hope to get the website completely populated by Friday. You can check out 1998's info which is basically the same (http://www.HWCI.com/worldcup/wc98). Feel free to invite friends to enter (Incentive: refer five people, get one free entry with one paid; refer 10 people get 2 free entries with one paid). And post any questions/thoughts on the World Cup on our forum discussion board (http://www.hwci.com/forum/zix/forum.asp?H_ID=11&pageid=1). Cheers, Scott HW
