Issue # 5.1.1 "And so it begins..."

		1998 HWCI WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT POOL '98
		=======================================

	OWN GOALS DOOM SCOTLAND AND MOROCCO'S BIDS FOR UPSETS
	Twenty-one entries in, twenty tied for first place

	LA MIRADA (smt)- Scotland (0-1) outscored Brazil 2-1, but
unfortunately one of the goals was into their own net, giving
Brazil (1-0) the first victory of the tournament.  Helpless
defender Tom Boyd could do nothing as the ball rebounded off another
defender then off his goalkeeper and then off his shoulder into the 
goal in quick fashion in the 73rd minute breaking a 1-1 tie.

	Norway (0-0-1) rebounded twice, the first on an own goal,
to tie the fiesty Morocco side (0-0-1), 2-2 in Group A play.

	RUSSO was the only person to have Scotland over Brazil
and thus sits by himself in 21st place.  The draw in the second
game is a wash and twenty people are tied for first with one point.
Had there not been an own goal, five people would have gotten a
point.  

	Some quick pool tidbits.  For the champion, only eight teams 
were picked to win it all:

	6	Brazil, Germany
	3	England
	2	Spain
	1	USA, France, Italy, Korea

Iran and Tunsia were the only teams of the field of 32 that 
no one picked to reach the Round of 16.  Brazil, Italy, Germany,
and Argentina were the only four teams that everyone agrees
will make it to the Round of 16.  Twelve of the 48 round-robin
games have everyone in agreement.

there is a problem in your entry, please email me no later than
Friday.  Otherwise, what goes up Sunday morning is what we are
sticking with.
