FULLERTON/CERRITOS, CA (smt)- Many thought #10E-Auburn didn't deserve to be in the tournament after their second half collapse but they are in the Sweet 16 after running over #2E-Wake Forest. #12E-Butler, who was snubbed last year, recovered from a slow start to upset #4E-Louisville. In rematches to past championships, #7S-Michigan St. again beat #2S-Florida (2000 title game) and #1MW-Kentucky also once again beat #9MW-Utah (1998 title game). Defending Champ, #6S-Maryland, knocked off #3S-Xavier from the tournament. #2MW-Pitt, #3E-Syracuse, and #1S-Texas had strong second halves to complete the Sweet 16. The South Region saw just one of its top four teams (Texas) [Corrected-Ed.] move into the Sweet 16.

In a Twilight Zone-esque scenario, BLUEBERRY became the first person to have the high # of wins in the first round and then the low # of wins in the second round. Her Final Four and 6 of her Elite 8 teams are kaput, she can only get 8 more points, and is eliminated from prize contention. Bizarre. 12 others took less extreme paths to elmination, leaving just 50 for prize contetion and 36 for the battle for first place.

SOURCE and GHOST OF VALVANO (70 pts) are tied for 52nd place but can still win 1st place. GWEN SIX (68) is tied for 58th place but can still finish 2nd. MATADOR (81), despite being tied for 16th place, can't finish in first.

BOMB SADDAM (11.6%), BINGO (9.1%), and QUIDDITCH RULES (9.1%) have the best chance to win first place while BINGO leads overall with a 34.7% chance of winning money. GATOR BLIND has a smiggin of hope at 0.04% of any prize as again, Florida fell way short.

As for the standings, BINGO has caught up to BIG LUTHER with 90 points (ties record) for first place. Three people with 6-3 to help their cause while BLUEBERRY tied a record low of 1-7 for the day. Seven entries went 12-4 for the 2nd Round while BLUEBERRY went the opposite at 4-12. It's still a wide open pool with 36 entries still in the running for first place.
