FOURTH HWCI OFFICIAL BETTING POOL- NCAA TOURNAMENT `98
=========================

It will all come down next weekend when the final placements in the
pool will be decided. The main semifinal game of interest will be
the #1E UNC-#3W Utah game. If UNC wins, then CAVEMAN finishes first
and SCOTMAN and BUCKEYE MIKE go home empty. If Utah wins, ANNA COME
LATELY gets 1st, CAVEMAN 2nd, THE FABONE (yours truly) 3rd, with a
4-way tie for 4th place. Also, the dubious distinction of finishing
in last place will also be decided with the UNC-Utah game. If UNC wins,
BAERSARKE will finish 28th with 84 points. If Utah wins, SLAVE TO BIG SIX
will end this nightmare dead last with just 83 points (previous
last-place finishers: LOSER WHO DIDN'T PICK UCLA (98 points in 1995),
THE CHEF (80 in 1996), and BUCKEYE MIKE (80 in 1997)).

The tiebreaking procedure is as follows:

1. Total points in Championship Game on Monday, March 30, 1998
- whoever gets closest to the total points tiebreaker
(e.g., if PlayerA picked 120 and PlayerB picked 140, then
under 130 will mean PlayerA wins tiebreaker; over 130 means
PlayerB wins tiebreaker; and 130 would result in a tie)
2. if still tied, then players tied shall split prize money
(e.g., if 2 players end up tied for 2nd place, then they will
split 2nd and 3rd place prize money ($70+$40=$110) and each will
get $55 each; if 2 players tie for 4th place, then each will
split 4th place prize money ($10 each))

As you can see, we will have our 4th new HWCI NCAA Pool Champion.
Also, JAYBIAN III's (Jason Selander) streak of winning money will end at
two (1st in 1996, 3rd in 1997). CAVEMAN (James Lew) will now have won
money in both pools he entered (3rd in 1996). Duplicates aren't the rule,
apparently. The "Kim"'s go 0-4, the "Lee"'s 0-2, the "Selander"'s 0-2,
and Tuan's two entries both will draw nada. With THE FABONE getting some
cash, that leaves only SHAKERMAKER (Alvin), FOOT DOCTOR (Mark), and
TAURUS (Jeremy) as the only four-time entrants who have not won anything.

FYI, in previous years, the 1st-3rd prizes were roughly divided 57/27/16 %.
