TRADITIONAL POWERS IN FINAL FOUR
The Pride of Troy in 1st, but You're My Boy Blue is Only One to Clinch Money

ALHAMBRA & CERRITOS, CA (smt) - #5MW-Michigan St. advanced to their 6th Final Four in 12 years by nipping #6MW-Tennessee, 70-69 in a hard-fought battle.  The Spartans missed the front-end of a one-and-one that could've put them up by 3 but then the Vols missed a free throw that would've put them ahead with 11 seconds left The Spartans came down the court without calling a timeout after that miss and a nifty inside pass resulted in a questionable foul with 1.8 seconds left.  After hitting the first to break a 69-69 tie, Raymar Morgan intentionally missed the second, which after a review, only resulted in 0.2 seconds (instead of originally 0.8) being knocked off the clock, but more importantly, kept the Vols from being able to run up and down the baseline to inbound the ball.

In the South, #1-Duke won 22 offensive rebounds and used those second chance points to outlast a determined #3-Baylor, 78-71.  The Bears led 57-54 but Duke went on a 18-5 run to keep the Bears at bay.  "Duke University", as CBS loves to call them, reached its 4th Final Four in the past 12 years and is the only #1 seed in the Final Four.  It didn't help Baylor that they lost their cool with Quincy Acy picking up a dumb technical foul with 1:19 left and down by eight (though Duke's Jon Scheyer does look like a punk).

In the pool, 48 entries picked Duke and thus, 48 went 1-1 for the day.  The Pride of Troy! took over first with 110 points but it is You're My Boy Blue who is guaranteed money (at least 3rd, $170) and sits in second with 108 pts.  Another Two-Peat, who had picked Tennessee and needed those six points, sits in 3rd with 107 points.  A total of 13 entries are still alive which is amazing since only #1 seed is still alive and three (The Pride of Troy!, You're My Boy Blue, and Blue Devil Blues (4th-Tied, 106)) are in line to win the $500 first-place prize.  All three are vying to become our 15th different pool champion in 16 years.

With the Big 12 out with Baylor's loss, no one will win the Bonus1 for correctly picking the best conference with the most wins.  So now, Bonus2 (total points in final) will be in effect.  The possibilities for that will be figured out in the next day or so.

Tids & Bits - Eighteen entries went 2-2 for the day... 56 went 0-4 which is the most ever- there had only been 152 entries to go 0-for-the-Final-Four... Scott T (Sweet Fabone) avoided his first ever 0-for-the-Final-Four when Duke won, meaning his has picked at least one Final Four team in all 16 years; on the flip side, Roy W (Krispy Kremer) went 0-for-the-Final-Four for the fifth time in 9 years... Patrick N (The Pride of Troy!) has done the best with the Final Four, picking an average of 2.1 teams per year (tied with Bing F)... the 0.68 teams average for the Elite 8 was the second-lowest ever (0.58 in 2006 when no #1 seed made the Final Four)... if Michigan St. or Butler wins the championship, it will be the first time no one picked the correct champ since 1998 when #2S-Kentucky won (the only other year was 1997 when #4SE-'Zona won)... 15 had picked Baylor to make the Final Four... Deemed to Win (31st-T, 91) began the week tied for 100th place and just a 0.99% chance of winning money; he now has a 25% chance; FOMI (31st-T) also began tied for 100th (but with a 3.14% chance for money) and has a 25% chance; in fact, both of these entries are tied and a tiebreaker would settle 5th if Duke ends up winning it all... of those who picked Duke or West Virginia to win it all, only Lea's Bees (66th-T, 85) has no chance for money (picked WVU)...

Deemed to Win torturing me by still having a chance, having 7 straight games go my way..
