Issue # 1.0.0 "Blessed We Are"
[ Home ] [ Updates ]
Recently, I've had the opportunity to travel abroad for business. In each country, as I observed their unique cultures, experienced their ancient customs and traditions, sampled their local delicacies, and became attuned to the spirit of the people, I realized how sad and deprived their lives are because they don't have March Madness. But not us. We're the lucky ones. And now is the time. The greatest event in sports has come once again for us to behold. And like the past 10 years, we'll be holding our annual Tourney Pool.

To those returning, you know how it works. To the uninitiated (and heretofore deprived), the relevant details are below. The Madness begins next Thursday, so enjoy the tournament, the tradition, the passion, the human drama, the buzzer beaters, the wild on-court celebrations, the gambling - enjoy all of it. And then raise your glass, wipe that tear away, and thank God that you live in a country that has a collegiate governing board that has decided to determine its men's basketball national championship with a 65 team single elimination tournament. Or just say "Cheers to the Tourney".

that is all,

David

Further Details:

No more free bonus entries for referrals

************************************************

This was getting a little out of hand. And anyways, shouldn't the incentive to "recruit" be the simple joy of spreading the excitement that is the shared experience of the NCAA tournament? For most of you, probably not :-( But we'll find out.

************************************************

Possible "Bonus" category

************************************************

If we should exceed a certain number of entries, we will be bringing back the highest-conference-win-total bonus category. The rules will the same, with place winners (1st through 4th) ineligible, and ties being broken by the total final game score.

************************************************

Entry fee deadline moved up to 2nd day of tournament (March 18, 2005)

************************************************

After receiving a couple deadbeat entries a couple years ago, we decided to be more strict on the entry fee deadline. It's simply not fair for people to sit back and watch the first two rounds to see how they did before deciding whether or not to send their money in (even though half of the time the ultimate winners don't lead in the standings after 2 rounds). Thus, we're moving the deadline up.

There are three basic methods for payment:

1. Personally hand the $10 fee to an HWCI member by March 18

2. Over the internet via PayPal by March 18 (you'll find more info about PayPal below)

3. By check sent by snail mail (mailed and postmarked by March 17, the first day of the tournament).

Please mail them to: (email ncaa(at)hwci.com for snail mail address)

Important exception: If you have an HWCI member who can vouch for you and front your money, this is not a hard deadline. For all others, please get acquainted with PayPal. _____________________________________

Paying with PayPal. PayPal is the most popular and established method of transferring funds between independent parties over the internet. Personal accounts are free. To pay via PayPal, you can click on the link below.

($10.00 - No Credit Card Option)

If you don't already have a PayPal account, you'll need to sign up for one. In the past, because [email protected] is a personal PayPal account (as opposed to Business or Premier), we could not accept credit card payments. If you try to send a credit card payment, it will be rejected. This means you will have to set up your PayPal account to withdraw from a verifiable bank account. To do this, you'll need your bank account number and routing number ready. But now, to make things more convenient, if you prefer sending a credit card payment, you can now send $10.59 (2.9% + 30¢ PayPal fees) per entry to [email protected] (which is a Premier account).

($10.59 - Credit Card Payment Only)

Remember, if you have any questions, please write to ncaa(at)hwci.com.
