Pool Veterans and Neophytes,

It's mid-March, so you know this mass mailing can mean only one thing. Believe it or not, this is our 10th year running this pool. 10 years of buzzer beaters and 5-12 game upsets, of small mid-majors standing toe-to-toe with college basketball powerhouses, of Miles Simon and Mateen Cleaves becoming school legends, of Gonzaga overachieving, of Bob Knight underachieving, of Kentucky final fours, of Jay Williams choking at the line against Indiana, of Tyus Edney coast to coast (yeah baby!), and 10 years of me not winning this darn thing. No matter which teams are in this year or which teams are out, the tournament always provides high drama.

Here are the major details (all other information can be found at the website):

Website: http://www.hwci.com/ncaa
Entry Fee: $10
Entry Form Available: Sunday night, March 14, 2004

Further Details:

No more free bonus entries for referrals
************************************************
This was getting a little out of hand. And anyways, shouldn't the incentive to "recruit" be the simple joy of spreading the excitement that is the shared experience of the NCAA tournament? For most of you, probably not :-( But we'll find out.

************************************************
Possible "Bonus" category
************************************************
If we should exceed a certain number of entries, we will be bringing back the highest-conference-win-total bonus category. The rules will the same, with place winners (1st through 4th) ineligible, and ties being broken by the total final game score.

************************************************
Entry fee deadline moved up to 2nd day of tournament (March 19, 2004)
************************************************
After receiving a couple deadbeat entries a couple years ago, we decided to be more strict on the entry fee deadline. It's simply not fair for people to sit back and watch the first two rounds to see how they did before deciding whether or not to send their money in (even though half of the time the ultimate winners don't lead in the standings after 2 rounds). Thus, we're moving the deadline up. There are three basic methods for payment:

1. Personally hand the $10 fee to an HWCI member by March 19
2. Over the internet via PayPal by March 19 (you'll find more info about PayPal below)
3. By check sent by snail mail (mailed and postmarked by March 18, the first day of the tournament). Please mail them to:

(email ncaa(at)hwci.com for snail mail address)

Important exception: If you have an HWCI member who can vouch for you and front your money, this is not a hard deadline. For all others, please get acquainted with PayPal.

Paying with PayPal

PayPal is the most popular and established method of transferring funds between independent parties over the internet. Personal accounts are free. To pay via PayPal, you can click on this link.

If you don't already have a PayPal account, you'll need to sign up for one. Because [email protected] is a personal PayPal account (as opposed to Business or Premium), we can not accept credit card payments. If you try to send a credit card payment, it will be rejected. This means you will have to set up your PayPal account to withdraw from a verifiable bank account. To do this, you'll need your bank account number and routing number ready.

Remember, if you have any questions, please write to ncaa(at)hwci.com.
