BUZZER BEATERS AND NEAR MISSES BUT FEW UPSETS
Blueberry's record win streak ends at 20

CERRITOS, CA (smt)- Defending Champ #6S-Maryland needed an off-balance running three-pointer by Drew Nicholas as time ran out to prevent #11S-UNC-Wilmington from getting their second straight upset in a row (won vs USC last year). Why did UNC-W call a time out after Shaq-like Aaron Coombs (7/18 in free throws before today) hit two clutch free throws to put UNC-W up by one with 5 seconds left and no timeouts for Maryland? Well, UCLA still gets to keep the distiction as the last defending champ to be ousted in the first round (1996).

#10E-Auburn (in overtime), #2E-Wake Forest, #9MW-Utah (survived 2 last second 3-pt attempts), and #12E-Butler (in a weird low scoring game and which CBS did not show) all survived last second shots. #7MW-Indiana, the other 2002 finalist, rallied from 11 points down and avoided going out in the first round for the 6th time in the last 9 years. #3E-Syracuse, #1MW-Kentucky, #1S-Texas, #6E-Oklahoma St., #9S-Purdue, #2MW-Pitt, #7S-Michigan St., #3S-Xavier, #4E-Louisville, and #2S-Florida all rolled to easy victories.

BLUEBERRY's (58 pts) record 20 straight wins was snapped with Penn's loss, an Elite 8 team. She went 13-3 with Mississippi St.'s loss knocking one of her Final Four teams out. She's still all alone in first with 58 points, 2 short of the all-time record. BLOOMERS123 and ZIPPY are close behind with 56 points. Here's a weird fact... BLUEBERRY, BLOOMERS123, and SUSIE Q all have #4S-Stanford in the final. Do they know something we don't? 38 people are within 10 points or less of BLUEBERRY. GWEN SIX now takes over 63rd and last place with 38 points.

SUSIE Q (4th-T, 54) with Oregon and REX BANNER (54th-T, 42) NUKE BAGHDAD (27th-T, 48), and BLUEBERRY with Miss. St. lost one of their Final Four teams. It's still anyone's game, however, as there are 16 games left this weekend.
