FOURTH HWCI OFFICIAL BETTING POOL- NCAA TOURNAMENT `98
=========================

At least the #1 seeds are having an easy time. Five more double-digit
seeds made it to the second round, joining the three who made it yesterday.
And #12S Iona nearly had #5S Syracuse pegged if it weren't for a last-second
three-pointer. #12MW Florida St. silenced
critics who thought they shouldn't have made it to the tournament by
upsetting #5MW Texas Christian and will play #13MW Valparaiso sneaked
in on an incredible buzzer-beating three-pointer. All the upsets except
for #10MW Detroit's win over #7MW St. John's occurred in the afternoon
sessions (first 8 games). #6S UCLA's Henderson made his free-throws when it
ultimately counted- in the final seconds, as they just slipped by
#11S Miami. With #2MW Purdue routing #15MW Deleware, the Big 10 Conference
has gone 5-0 in the tourney. UCLA's win pushed the Pac-10 to 4-0.

PIPI GIRL won her first 7 games today, incredibly picking
#13MW Valparaiso over #4MW Mississippi (one of two people with BUCKEYE MIKE
the other), #11MW Western Michigan over #6MW Clemson (one of three with
ANNA COME LATELY and UTHPOPE), and #10S St. Louis over #7S UMass (one of
five). She did fail to pick #12 Florida St., as did 22 others. However,
with 7 of 8 favorites winning in the evening sessions, she only went 5-3.
THE FABONE (yours truly) struggled in the afternoon like everyone else
(4-4), but was the only one to sweep the evening sessions to go from tied
for 17th to tied for 4th with 46 points. However, MONEY made the biggest
move, going from tied for 24th to start the day to tied for 4th at the
end of the day with a day high of 13 wins. MONEY is also the ONLY person
to have all of his Sweet 16 teams in contention. BAERSARKE got 12 of
16 correct today, but one of his 4- Mississippi, could kill any hope of
winning the tourney. He picked Ole' Miss to win it all (in addition to
being the only person to have 2 of his Elite 8 teams out), and now can't
finish any higher than 132 points (on the other end, MONEY could get
178 points). PREKI THE BOMB bombed, setting a new HWCI-low of only
8 wins in one day, having five of his Sweet 16 teams eliminated, and
finished tied for last place (40 points).

CBS's television coverage absolutely sucks. I guess I didn't miss
much being at work. I watched the UCLA game and there was no mention
of the StJ-Detroit game, which ended up being a nail-biter, for almost
30 minutes. I thought their coverage of the Olympics was bad, but this
was worse. You hardly got any scores of any of the other games, and if
it isn't halftime of the game you're watching, too bad. Check the internet.
Also, where's the radio coverage?? It starts tomorrow and with the
exception of the UCLA game on XTRA-AM 690, there were none. Actually,
AM 1540 (don't know what it's called) has the best coverage of the NCAA
but its signal is very week. I will now get off my soapbox...

MONEY BREAKDOWN
---------------
Unofficially, the breakdown will be as follows, with our first-ever fourth-place prize (the Final Four, sorta speak):
